Who ARE the Virginia City Motorcycle Marathoners?

In 1977, we had a local lady who had to have her remaining leg amputated and the family needed some assistance. Doug and Katie Kick, with the help of other residents, decided to hold the first 200 mile ride from Tonopah to Virginia City with the riders obtaining pledges per mile to raise money for medical bills.

For over 45 years, VCMM held an annual ride to raise funds for families in need. Katie went to a better place in 1983 and Doug joined her in 2001. Now, even though there are agencies that assist with indigent assistance, the need is still present for financial assistance associated with medical emergencies. These expenses can include rent, utilities, medications, and travel not covered by insurance or government assistance. To date, we have collected and paid out in excess of $300,000 over the past 40 years. It has been our policy not to publicize the name of each individual or family that has received assistance from VCMM. The Virginia City Motorcycle Marathoners is a non-profit organization with 501(c) 3 status. The VCMM Board consists of five (5) members and a majority vote is required on all funds paid out. In addition to the medical financial assistance, the VCMM has established a scholarship program that awards at least one scholarship annually to a Virginia City High School graduate. This scholarship was established in memory of a dedicated contributor who has since passed away, but we continue to honor her wish to remain anonymous. We would like to thank all contributors for their continued support of VCMM. Without you, we would not be able to help others in need.
